ELKINS, W.Va. – Point Park made three defensive stops, including two forced turnovers, in the final 31 seconds to pick up a 64-62 win over Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at the McDonnell Center.
Point Park took the lead (64-62) on a driving layup by
Kaden Warner with 31 seconds remaining in Saturday's game. Following a thirty-second timeout by PPU, the teams traded turnovers to give the Senators the possession with 18 seconds remaining.
As the game moved under 10 seconds, Nicolas Silva attempted a layup, grabbed his own rebound and attempted a putback that was swatted away by
Jags Jhawar with just over five seconds remaining.
Following the block, Silva grabbed another rebound, but
Nick Marshall stripped the ball away to give Point Park possession with three seconds remaining.
Nathaniel Van was fouled in the closing seconds and missed both ends of a pair of free throws to give D&E one final offensive possession, but Silva's buzzer-beating attempt was off the mark, closing out Point Park's third-consecutive win.
Kaden Warner led three double-figure scorers for Point Park with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Nick Marshall came off the bench to chip in 12 points and seven rebounds, while
Aiden Miller just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Nazareth Fisher finished the afternoon with seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Point Park shot 35 percent from the floor (24-68), including just 6 of 30 from three. The Pioneers also held a 43-29 rebounding advantage.
Silva recorded a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Davis & Elkins on Saturday. Dontrell Jenkins also reached double-figures with 12 points. The Senators shot 42 percent from the floor, but also struggled from behind the arc at just 4-of-13 from three.
Point Park will take its three-game winning streak into Friday's non-conference matchup against Penn State Shenango. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at CCAC.
