SALEM, W.Va. – The Point Park men's basketball team drained 15 threes on their way to an 86-64 win over non-conference opponent Salem at the T. Edwards Davis Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
Point Park held a slim 41-38 lead going into the second half as a Daquan Coleman drained a three to bring Salem within three. Point Park turned up the pressure in the second half scoring 45 points and holding Salem to only 26 points. During the second half the Pioneers shot 50 percent knocking down 15 of their 30 attempts. The Pioneers drained nine three's and went 6 for 7 from the free throw line.
Kaden Warner continued his offensive dominance scoring 29 points on 52.6 percent shooting from the field. Warner went 5 for 11 from behind the three and 4 for 5 from the free throw line. He also dished out a team-high six assists on the night.
Nazareth Fisher and
Aiden Miller both had double-doubles pulling down 13 boards each while Miller scored 11 and Fisher scored 10.
Four other Pioneers scored double-digit points with
Nick Marshall (13), Nate Van (10), and
Aidan Anderson (11) all contributing to the Pioneers offensive showing.
For Salem, the Tigers offensive struggle in the second half proved costly as they were able to only score 26 points on 32.3 percent shooting from the field. 16 of the Tigers 26 second half points came from the bench.
Daquan Coleman was the leading scorer for Salem picking up 16 points in the effort along with four rebounds and three assists. Jalen Barnes (13) and Tyree Davis (11) were the other top scorers for the Tigers offense.
Point Park controlled the glass as the Pioneers brought down 47 rebounds with 34 being defensive and 13 being offensive rebounds compared to Salem's 26 rebounds on the night.
With the win, Point Park advances to 10-8 overall with the non-conference win over Salem. Point Park is now 2-4 on the road. The Pioneers will return back to Pittsburgh and resume Mountain East Conference action on Wednesday, January 29 against Davis & Elkins. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from CCAC-Allegheny Gym.
