BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week's Women's Soccer Player of the Week awards.
Point Park's
Rebecca Pihlgren is the MEC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Frostburg State's Kayla Doty is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Pihlgren tallied a goal and an assist in each of the Pioneers' games last week. The freshman from Sweden opened the scoring in Point Park's 2-1 win against Concord, and then assisted on the game-winner. She also scored a goal and recorded another assist against UC on Sunday afternoon. She has scored in three consecutive games and is currently in a three-way-tie for the league lead in goals with nine on the season. She also leads the Mountain East Conference in points (23).
Pihlgren is the second Pioneer women's soccer player to earn MEC Player of the Week honors this season, joining
Maya Figueroa back on Sept. 8.
Doty helped the Bobcats go 1-0-1 on the week, including an impressive draw against West Virginia State. The sophomore from Herndon, Virginia, made a season-high 11 saves against the Yellow Jackets, and then made a pair of saves in a shutout of West Virginia Wesleyan to improve her personal record to 6-1-1 this season.
The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
