Women's Basketball Opens Conference Play at Wheeling

PITTSBURGH – The 2-1 Point Park women's basketball team will begin conference play on Wednesday evening at Wheeling University. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Alma Grace McDonough Center.
 
After opening the season with back-to-back wins over Shippensburg (56-50) and UPJ (73-68), the Pioneers dropped their last outing by a score of 74-52 at Shepherd. Wheeling comes into the game with a record of 3-2, dropping its last outing against Ohio Dominican (55-43) at home.
 
Storylines
  • Point Park and Wheeling both have a win over Pitt-Johnstown this season. The Pioneers defeated the Mountain Cats, 73-68, in overtime back on Nov. 23, while Wheeling defeated UPJ, 62-54, at the McDonough Center on Nov. 19.
  • Elizabeth Boyd is leading Point Park in scoring this winter, averaging a double-double at 13.0 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Boyd is shooting 57 percent from the floor through three games this season.
  • Alexis Giles is second on the team in scoring at 12.7 points per game, while Camille Fultz is averaging 12.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per outing.
  • Kamryn Pieper and Fatim Sarr Ndow are also contributing in the paint this season. Pieper is averaging 3.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while Sarr Ndow is chipping in 3.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
  • Three different players have led Point Park in scoring to open the season. In the season opener against Shippensburg, Alexis Giles scored a team-high 14 points, while Camille Fultz scored a team-best 23 against UPJ in the home opener on Nov. 23. In last Wednesday's setback at Shepherd, Boyd scored a team-high 15 points.
  • Boyd has two double-doubles this season and has recorded double-digit rebounds in every game for the Pioneers. She had a season-high 16 points and 12 rebounds against UPJ (11/23) in Point Park's only home game so far this season.
  • Wednesday's game is the second of four-consecutive road games for the Pioneers.
