FAIRMONT, W.Va. – In a rematch between Point Park and Fairmont State the women's basketball team fell 70-61 in a Mountain East Conference matchup with the Fighting Falcons at the Feaster Center.
In their second meeting of the season, Point Park kept #24 Fairmont State within reach as Fairmont's lead was no bigger than 11 throughout the matchup.
Alexis Giles made a huge three point shot with 1:16 left in the third quarter to tie the matchup at 48-48 but the Pioneers were unable to gain the lead.
On the night Point Park had a better shooting percentage from the Floor then the Fighting Falcons as the Pioneers shot 41.5 percent from the floor (27-for-65) while Fairmont State shot 33.3 percent (21-for-63).
Leading the Pioneers offense was senior
Ari Bleda. Bleda had an impressive state line picking up 19 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal.
Other players to provide support to the offense were
Camille Fultz who nearly registered another double-double as the Ohio native picked up 12 points and nine rebounds on the night.
Alexis Giles finished the night as the only other Point Park player in double figures picking up 11 points in 30 minutes of play.
Point Park beat Fairmont State on the glass as the Pioneers pulled down 45 rebounds which featured 33 defensive rebounds and 12 offensive rebounds.
Aichata Ballo lead all players, pulling down 10 boards on the night. Ballo also registered six assists for the Pioneers.
Fairmont State's defense caused issues for the Pioneers forcing 20 turnovers on the night. The Fighting Falcons offense was led by Leslie Huffman (29) and Alyssa DeAngelo (18). Fairmont State shot an impressive 24-for-27 from the line which featured Huffman and DeAngelo going nearly perfect at the line as the two combined to shoot 21-for-23 from the free throw line.
Point Park will continue Mountain East Conference play, returning to Pittsburgh to host Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Pioneers will enter the matchup 8-16 overall and 6-12 in conference play. Point Park currently sits at 4-6 at home on the year.
