Point Park Picks Up 21-3 Win Over W&J In Non-Conference Play

WASHINGTON, Pa. - Point Park delivered an offensive explosion on Tuesday evening, dominating Washington & Jefferson for a 21-3 non-conference victory.

The Pioneers had four extra-base hits and four home runs in the one-sided affair, led by a pair of home runs and five RBIs from Omar Morillo.

Joey Tedesco made his first start of the season, surrendering one run in the bottom of the first as Washington & Jefferson took an early lead in the game.

In the top of the second with one out, Joseph Pilewski recorded his 12th hit of the season, followed by a single up the middle from Luis Gonzalez. Jordan Campbell flew out, but a throwing error on a pickoff attempt allowed Pilewski to score safely and advanced Gonzalez to third, to tie up the game.

Edward Mateo worked a walk, putting runners on the corners for leadoff hitter (Omar) Morillo, who crushed a three-run homer to right (his third of the season). Washington & Jefferson responded with a run of their own, closing the second inning at 4-2 in favor of the visitors.

Point Park put up another four runs in the third inning.

Reining MEC Player of the Week Jared Campbell was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on multiple errors by the Presidents. Crixtian Taveras then drove in Campbell for his 18th RBI of the season.

As the inning continued, Luis Gonzalez reached on an error, allowing Taveras to advance to third. Gonzalez then stole second setting up Jordan Campbell with two outs and runners in scoring position. Campbell delivered, smashing a three-run homer to left field (his second of the season) to extend Pioneer lead to 8-2.

The action picked back up in the fifth inning when Taveras led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a series of W&J throwing errors. Through five innings, Samuel Georgiana pitched the second and third, allowing one run with three strikeouts, while Logan Creamer threw two scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth.

Leading 9-2 in the top of the seventh, the Pioneers continued their explosive offense as Taveras and Pilewski both reached base safely to start the inning. Gonzalez would drive in Taveras with a double, followed by (Jordan) Campbell bringing home two more for a 12-2 PPU advantage.

Jordan Campbell drove home five runs on Tuesday evening.

Still in the seventh, Morillo hit his second multi-run home run to right-center field, making it 14-2. Morillo set season-highs in home runs (2) and RBIs (5) in the win over W&J.

Leading 14-2 entering the eighth inning, Point Park added two more runs in the frame.

Taveras reached safely with a single, followed by a Gonzalez double. Marcus Franco would pinch hit for Jordan Campbell and hit a double driving in Taveras and Gonzalez to make it 16-2.

The Pioneers made the most of their last at-bat in the 9th inning, putting up their second five-run inning of the game.

Trevor Jones reached safely on an error, followed by an Isaac Santana single, setting up Taveras to record his fifth hit of the game (his second 5-hit game of the season) to load the bases for Matt Brandt. Brandt walked to score the first run of the inning.

With one out and the bases loaded, Luis Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly to center, making it 18-2. During the next at-bat, Franco cleared the bases with the Pioneers' fourth home run of the game (a PPU season-high), marking his first of the year and extending the lead to 21-2.
