Point Park Plates 12 Runs Against Dominican, Improves To 5-1 On The Season

CARY, N.C. – Point Park grabbed a lead in the top of the eighth inning and went on to defeat Dominican University of New York on Saturday, 12-9, at the USA Baseball Complex Stadium in Cary, North Carolina.

With the game knotted at 8-8 at the end of the seventh inning, Point Park took the lead for good on an RBI double by Crixtian Taveras to score Jared Campbell in the eighth. Point Park took a 10-8 lead when Jordan Campbell was walked with the bases loaded later in the inning.

After Point Park held Dominican scoreless in the bottom of the eighth, Chris Williams and (Jared) Campbell both drove in runs in the top of the ninth to push Point Park's advantage to 12-8.

Kevin Hirsch led off the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run for the Chargers, but that ended the scoring, giving Point Park the 12-9 win.

In addition to being a high-scoring affair, the teams combined for 33 hits in the game, 17 from Dominican and 16 from Point Park.

The Pioneers had nine extra-base hits in the win, including two home runs from Edward Mateo and three doubles from Taveras. Point Park also recorded five stolen based on Saturday afternoon (two apiece from Omar Morillo and Williams, and one from Taveras).

Mateo hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth and returned for a three-run park-clearer in the seventh. Joseph Pilewski also had a solid day at the plate, hitting 2-for-5 with a run and three RBIs.

Ethan Parker (1-0) picked up his first win of the season after working the final three innings for Point Park. He allowed one run on four hits while striking out two. Orlando Leon made the start and threw the first five innings, while Harold Boyce pitched in the sixth.

Point Park (5-1 in 2025) will wrap up play in Cary on Sunday afternoon, returning to the field for another nine-inning game against Dominican (NY). First pitch is slated for 12:30.
