Point Park Sweeps Charleston In Saturday Showdown

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Point Park swept the defending Mountain East Conference Champions by picking up 5-2 and 10-0 road victories over the Golden Eagles of Charleston on Saturday afternoon at the Welsh Athletic Complex.
 
With the sweep, Point Park extends its current win streak to six games and improves to 19-6 overall and 9-1 in league play. Charleston is now 10-16 overall and 5-5 in league play.
 
Game 1
 
In game one, Javier Cardoso improved to 4-2 in the season after pitching five innings and allowing just two runs on six hits. He struck out five batters in the win. Ethan Parker took the mound in the sixth and seventh and turned in a pair of hit-less innings to record his second save of the season.
 
Trailing 2-1 in the third inning, Jared Campbell tied the game on an RBI double that scored Chris Williams from second. The Pioneers then took the lead for good with an RBI single by Williams in the fourth. Omar Morillo scored from second on Williams' single.
 
The Pioneers pushed the final score to 5-2 with a pair of runs in the fifth. In the fifth, Joseph Pilewski scored on a passed ball and Crixtian Taveras scored on an RBI single by Jordan Campbell.
 
Game 2
 
In game two, Harold Boyce threw a two-hit shutout for the Pioneers, striking out four and recording no walks in seven innings of work. Boyce is now 2-1 on the season.
 
Offensively, the Pioneers recorded five doubles and a pair of home runs in the 10-0 shutout. Morillo and Pilewski each left the park in the win.
 
Morillo, Taveras and Trevor Jones each recorded two hits in game two, while Morillo and Pilewski drove in two runs apiece.
 
The Pioneers will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. against West Virginia State.
