DAVENPORT, Fla. — The Point Park baseball team picked up a 9-5 win over Wayne State (Neb.) at Northeast Regional Park.
Point Park's offense got off to a quick start as the Pioneers put up six runs in the bottom of the first against Wayne State.
Point Park's first three batters got on base to start off the contest. Omar Morillo and Chris Williams hit back-to-back singles to left field followed up by Jared Campbell being struck by a pitch.
Morillo scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch while Williams and Campbell advanced to second and third for upcoming batter Isaac Santana. With no outs Santana hit a line drive single to right field to score Williams to put the Pioneers up 2-0. An error by Wayne States pitcher during Crixitan Taveras at bat allowed the Pioneers to score again as both Jared Campbell and Santana crossed the plate on the overthrow. With one out Jordon Campbell doubled to center field to score Taveras and put Joseph Pilewski on third following a walk. Edward Mateo got the final run of the inning scoring Pilewski on a sacrafice fly to left field.
Wayne State got two runs back in the top of the third on two hits to cut the Pioneers lead down to four.
The Pioneers got another run on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Williams hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Jordon Campbell who had reached base on a walk.
In the top of the sixth, Wayne State had their biggest offensive inning putting up three runs on three hits to make the score 7-5 in favor of Point Park.
Point Park got their final two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Omar Morillo hit a two-run home run over the right field fence to put the Pioneers up for good.
Orlando Leon got his second win of the season going 5.0 innings giving up six hits, four runs, and three walks. Leon picked up two strikeouts in the effort.
Harold Boyce went 3.1 innings giving up four hits and one run while picking up three strikeouts.
Ramon Rodriguez finished out the game for the Pioneers going 0.2 innings. Giving up one hit while registering a strikeout.
