Point Park Goes 1-1 on Day 2 at MEC Softball Tournament

SALEM, Va. – Point Park's 2025 softball season came to an end on Thursday evening on day two of the Mountain East Conference Softball Championships at Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.
 
Point Park staved off elimination on Thursday afternoon with a 4-1 win over Concord, but dropped a 4-2 decision in its second elimination game against Glenville State in the evening.
 
Point Park's 2025 campaign comes to an end with a 17-30 overall record.
 
Game 1: Point Park 4, Concord 1
 
In the bottom of the first inning against Concord, Point Park got on the scoreboard first with a sacrifice fly from Gianna Welsh to score Melanie Taylor from third.
 
However, Concord evened the scoreboard in the top of the third on an RBI single by Kendall Morgan.
 
In the bottom of the frame, Point Park regained the lead for good on a solo home run to left field by Melanie Taylor, her third of the season. Leading 2-1 following the home run, Point Park added a second run in the bottom of the third when Remington Koi scored from third on a wild pitch.
 
The Pioneers added one more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 4-1 over the Mountain Lions. Gia LaBrie produced Point Park's final run of the game on an RBI single to right center.
 
Taylor and LaBrie each went 2-for-3 in the game to lead the Pioneers at the plate.
 
In the circle, Jaylyn Mullenax improved to 9-9 on the season with the win. She pitched four and one-thirds innings and allowed just one run on six hits. She recorded two strikeouts. Savannah Lee pitched the final two and two-thirds to record the save. Lee closed the game by allowing just one hit.
 
Game 2: Glenville State 4, Point Park 2
 
Point Park once against got on the board first against Glenville State, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the top of the first following RBI singles by Mia Arndt and Emma Henry to open game two.
 
The score would remain the same until the bottom of the fifth when Glenville State tied the game on an RBI triple by Addison Aguiniga and an RBI single by Shelby McDaniels.
 
Then in the bottom of the sixth, GSU took the lead for good on an RBI single by Hannah Howe. GSU added an unearned run via a Point Park error later in the inning to make the final score 4-2.
