CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Point Park smashed three home runs to aid its 15-5 run-rule victory over Concord on Wednesday afternoon on day one of the Mountain East Conference Baseball Tournament at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston.
With the win, Point Park improves to 38-13 and will have an off day on Thursday, before returning to action on Friday at noon against the loser of Thursday's morning matchup between Frostburg State and West Virginia State.
Omar Morillo went 3-for-5 with two runs scored at the plate, while
Isaac Santana went 2-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored.
Blake Ewing went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Santana, Ewing and
Jared Campbell each hit home runs for the Pioneers, while Santana and
Chris Williams hit doubles.
The Pioneers finished the game with 14 hits.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, Point Park responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Trevor Jones tied the game on an RBI single to left field, while Williams doubled to left field to make it 2-1 with the RBI.
The scored remained the same until the bottom of the fifth, when Santana hit a two-run blast to right field, bringing home Jordan Campbell to clear the bases. Later in the frame,
Luis Gonzalez and
Marcus Franco hit RBI singles to put the Pioneers out in front by a 7-1 margin. Franco brought home two runs on his RBI single to center field.
In the sixth with runners on second and third, Point Park made a change from
Javier Cardoso II to
Ethan Parker on the mound. But, with runners in scoring position, MJ Hunter singled to left field to make the score 7-3 in the middle of the inning.
In the bottom of the frame, Ewing cleared the right field fence to get one run back for the Pioneers on the solo home run. Three batters later with runners on second and third, Santana hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Jordan Campbell from third.
With Point Park leading 9-3 in the top of the seventh, Concord's Matthew DiSanti cleared the left field wall with a two-run homer, making the Point Park lead just four at 9-5.
However, the Point Park offense remained hot in the seventh, beginning with a two-run single to right field by Ewing. Williams and Jones were on second and third to setup Ewing's RBI's.
Two batters later with runners on first and second, Santana doubles to center field to bring home Morillo and Ewing to make Point Parks advantage 13-5.
Next, the 2025 MEC Player of the Year,
Jared Campbell, ended the game with the run rule (15-5) by blasting a two-run shot to left field – his league-leading 15
th home run of the season.
Cardoso put together a solid outing for Point Park, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out five in the start. Cardoso worked into the sixth inning and improved to 9-3 on the season. Parker recorded the final five out for the Pioneers in a non-save situation.
