PITTSBURGH – The men's Distance Medley Relay team set a new school record to highlight day one at the Dr. Sander Scorcher Invitational in Bronx, New York on Friday at The Armory.
The Point Park team of
Pedro Lemos,
Maxwell Eaton,
Chase Bowen and
Elijah Bechdel turned in the school-record time of 10:10.27 to smash the previous record by over seven seconds. The Pioneer DMR team finished second in the event.
Sophomore
Aike Van der Lei also turned in the second-fastest time in Point Park history in the 3000m at 8:47.48. He finished 16
th overall in Friday's race.
Junior
Gavin Glass also finished sixth in the 60m hurdles event (8.65), while
Akeem Mustapha took 20
th in the 60m "invitational" race with a time of 7.08.
On the women's side,
Dunya Van den Tooren finished first in the triple jump with a mark of 11.73m. The mark was the second-best in school history.
Cassondra O'Connor also had an impressive performance in the 3000m "invitational", turning in the third-fastest time in school history at 10:00.79.
Khady Ndiaye (6
th) and
Tanais Rojas (8
th) also turned in top 10 finishes in the triple jump.
Competition continues tomorrow at the Dr. Sander Scorcher Invitational at The Armory.
