PITTSBURGH -- Point Park men's lacrosse ended its first game with a narrow 12-11 loss to D'Youville on Saturday at Highmark Stadium.
After last Saturday's weather postponement, Saturday's game was the historic first game in program history for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers (0-1, 0-0 GMAC) trailed by four goals with 4:15 left to play, but two goals from Grant Huber and a goal from Parker Bowersox brought the Pioneers within one with 1:25 left to play. Point Park was unable, however, to find the equalizer.
Point Park featured five goalscorers, highlighted by Huber who tied the game lead with his four tallies. Parker Bowersox, who led the team in shots (eight) and shots on goal (five - tied with Huber), dented the twine twice, and Tigran Ceesay, Ian George, Nolan Heikamp and Jordan Gales all scored in the season debut. Mario Lorenson made seven saves in the PPU net.
Ceesay and George each recorded two assists, a team high. Huber's four points led the game, with Ceesay and George each scoring three.
D'Youville (1-1, 0-0 ECC) was led by Obrigh Tallchief in both goals (4) and assists (2). Casey Berns posted a save percentage of 54.2%, grabbing 13 saves for the Saints.
