Pioneers Drop Senior Day Matchup Against Wheeling

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park women's basketball fell to Wheeling on Wednesday night 71-56 at CCAC-Allegheny. 

 

Point Park (7-18, 4-16 MEC) was led on senior night by Elizabeth Boyd's 11th double-double of the season. Boyd led the game in points and rebounds, posting 17 and 14 respectively. Boyd's four assists and steal also led Point Park.

 

Alexis Giles, one of three seniors to be honored ahead of Wednesday's game, posted 10 points and four boards. Fellow senior Camille Fultz bagged 8 points and led the game with three blocks.

 

Despite trailing by 9 at halftime, Point Park clawed its way back into the game, outscoring Wheeling (16-11, 11-8 MEC) 21-13 in the third. Lucia Hervia led the Pioneers' third-quarter charge, scoring 7 points. Kamryn Pieper and Kiyana Larocque each added 5 points. 

 

Boyd scored 5 points to open the fourth quarter, spurring Point Park to a 52-52 tie with 7:09 to play. The Cardinals, however, would pull away late, ending the game on a 19-4 run.

 

Kenzie Dalton led the Cardinals, coming a rebound shy of a triple-double. Dalton posted 16 points, nine rebounds and 12 assists, all of which led the team, on the night.

 

UP NEXT

Point Park will visit Salem for its final tune-up ahead of the MEC Championships. Having clinched the 10th seed, the Pioneers will play the No. 7 seed (TBD) on Wednesday, March 4, at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.
