NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Westminster scored a goal with seven seconds remaining to edge Point Park by an 11-10 final on Wednesday evening in non-conference women's lacrosse action at the UPMC Sports Complex.
In a game that featured five lead changes and nine ties, Point Park tied the contest at 10-10 with 4:37 to play when
Kiley Leasure scored with an assist from
Gracie Favela. It was Leasure's second goal of the game after also scoring late in the second quarter.
With just seven ticks of the clock remaining, Westminster's Julia Ravazza found the back of the net for the unassisted game-winner. Ravazza finished with a team- and game-high five goals and three assists for the hosts on Wednesday. She also had six draw controls.
Andra Kinger led Point Park with three goals and one assists in the narrow loss. Leasure, Favela and
Tessa Hueber also scored two goals apiece. Favela passed out a team-high four assists, while
Taylor Desko,
Elena Sinar and
Emerson Wackowski each recorded five groundballs.
Sinar recorded eight saves in the Point Park goal.
Statistically, the game was evenly contested. Westminster held a 29-28 edge in shots and had an 18-17 advantage in clears. Point Park recorded a 32-30 advantage in groundballs and was -4 in turnovers (27-to-23).
Point Park returns home to open conference play on Saturday at Highmark Stadium, as Wheeling comes to town for a 5 p.m. matchup in downtown Pittsburgh.
