WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Minnesota Crookston erased an early Point Park lead to pick up a 13-3 win over the Pioneers on Sunday morning at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven.
In the first inning,
Carlos de la Vega scored on an error by the Minnesota Crookston shortstop to give Point Park an early 1-0 lead, and
Trevor Jones added PPU's second run in the frame by stealing home.
However, UMC scored three runs in the third, five runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to move ahead by a 10-2 margin after five innings of play.
Point Park made it 10-3 on an RBI single by
Trevor Jones in the bottom of the sixth. Then, in the eighth, Minnesota Crookston's Jackson Fliflet hit a three-run home run to push the final advantage to 13-3.
Point Park was limited to three hits in the game, including Jones's RBI single and two doubles by de la Vega. Both players also recorded a stolen base in the box score.
Six players saw action from the PPU pitching staff, as
Brandon Clifford made the start and suffered the loss.
Point Park will wrap up play in Florida on Monday with a 10:30 a.m. matchup against Concordia St. Paul. The game will be played at Northeast Regional Park.
