MEC Announces Preseason Volleyball Poll

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Point Park volleyball was tabbed fifth in the Mountain East Conference Preseason Volleyball Poll, the league office announced on Monday. 

 

The Pioneers finished the 2025 campaign with a 4-23 record (2-12 MEC). First-year head coach Nicole Bajuszik will return 11 players from last year's squad, including senior Nicole Reasbeck who led the Pioneers in kills (287), points (340.5) and attack percentage (.170), as well as finishing second on the team in assists (59) and third in blocks with 41.0 and aces with 30.

 

Reasbeck finished sixth in the MEC in kills and fourth in points.

 

Wheeling University and the University of Charleston were picked to finish first in the MEC North and South Divisions. The preseason polls were compiled via a vote of the conference's 12 head coaches.

 

Wheeling received six first-place votes to lead the MEC North Division. The Cardinals claimed a share of the MEC North Division title last season, with an overall record of 16-14 (10-4 MEC). Wheeling fell to south-division favorite Charleston in the 2026 MEC Volleyball Championship Quarterfinals.

 

Charleston, the reigning MEC Champion, additionally received six first-place votes. The Golden Eagles finished the 2026 season with a record of 23-13, with a 11-4 mark in league play. UC's season ended at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional against East Stroudsburg.  

 

Wheeling is followed by Fairmont State, West Liberty, Frostburg State, Point Park and Davis & Elkins in the North Division. Fairmont State received five first-place votes.

 

In the South Division, UC is followed by West Virginia Wesleyan, West Virginia State, Concord, Glenville State and MEC-newcomers Shawnee State. West Virginia Wesleyan received three first-place votes, and West Virginia State garnered one as well.

 

Point Park begins its 2026 season on Friday, Aug. 28, in the Lake Erie Storm Volleyball Classic with matchups against Slippery Rock and Seton Hill. The Pioneers will open the home portion of the schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 16, against Geneva at the Point Park Student Center.
