PITTSBURGH -- Hector Moreno's 20th-minute goal elevated Point Park men's soccer to its first win of the 2026 campaign on Wednesday night when it took down Thomas More at F.N.B. Stadium.
DIFFERENCE MAKER
Gijs Van Den Berg played a long ball from his own 18-yard box to Moreno who headed it along to force a breakaway against TMU goalkeeper Tim Tempel. Moreno then pulled off a great stepover move to sidestep Tempel and deposited the ball into the open net to give Point Park (1-1-1, 0-0-0 MEC) a 1-0 lead it would not surrender.
Moreno was one of six Pioneers to tally a shot on goal, as he was joined by Louis Guffroy, Edouard Gagnon, Nikolas Suarez and Lorenzo Grispello. Moreno's four total shots led the contest.
DEFEND THE CAGE
Goalkeeper Anthony Fusay tied for the game high with his three saves on the night. Fusay entered the contest second in the Mountain East Conference in total saves and saves per game (minimum two games).
In addition to Fusay, Point Park recorded two team saves in the game. Lennart Poth blocked a shot from Thomas More's (1-1-1, 0-0-0 G-MAC) Harrison Page off the goal line at 6:21 into the game to maintain the deadlock.
Then, with 7:04 remaining in the game, Bruno de Oliveira, in his first appearance as a Pioneer, raced back to the goal line to deny a header from Will Fox of TMU.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Pioneers and Saints both recorded 13 shots, with Point Park edging Thomas More 6-5 in shots on goal. In addition to Moreno's four total shots, Guffroy and Gagnon both tallied two with Gabriel Okita, Nikolas Suarez, Joel Gomez, Luca Alessandro Ferraro and Lorenzo Grispello all recording a shot.
Van Den Berg and Nikolai Tjoestheim both played the full 90 minutes - the only outfield players to do so.
