PITTSBURGH -- Point Park men's soccer is set to close out its opening home stand on Sunday as it welcomes Wheeling to F.N.B. Stadium. Opening kick of this Mountain East Conference (MEC) matchup is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

Point Park (1-1-1, 0-0-0 MEC) picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday when it took down Thomas More 1-0. Hector Moreno took a long pass from Gijs Van Den Berg and evaded the TMU goalkeeper to score in the 20th minute. 

Goalkeeper Anthony Fusay added three saves to his season total, bringing it up to 12 over three games. In addition to Fusay, Lennart Poth and Bruno de Oliveira both made goal-line clearances to give the Pioneers two team saves on the night. Poth blocked a shot in the sixth minute, and de Oliveira raced back to the line to stop a headed ball from going in.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS    

Wheeling (1-1-0, 0-0-0 MEC) picked up its first win of the season last Sunday in a 3-1 effort over Walsh. The Cardinals had fallen to California (PA) 2-1 in their season opener.

Jon-Michael Gordan scored a brace for WU against Walsh, striking in the 53rd and 79th minutes. KJ Viglundsson provided the team's second goal in the 78th minute. Gordon is tied for second in the MEC with his two goals and is tied for third with his 4 points. He also leads the Cardinals with six shots and four shots on goal.

Wheeling has played two goalkeepers this season: Alberto Madail started the game against Cal (PA), and Diego Marquez took the net against Walsh. Both have allowed only one goal, with Maruqez making seven saves to Madail's three. Marquez leads the MEC in saves per game (minimum one game)

FORT FUSAY

In his first season as a Pioneer, Goalkeeper Anthony Fusay is quickly rising to the top of MEC stat boards. Fusay, a junior from Lille, France, by way of Lincoln Memorial University, is tied for the MEC lead in saves with 12.

He is also tied for the league lead in saves per game (minimum three games) at 4.00 and shutouts with two. Fusay's goals-against average of 1.00 is tied for third in the MEC. Fusay has not allowed a goal in his last 203 minutes (three hours, 23 minutes) of game time.

PRESEASON PRAISE

Point Park was picked to finish second in the Mountain East Conference North Division in the MEC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll. The Pioneers received four of the 10 first-place votes.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

All 11 of Point Park's starters against Seton Hill made their Pioneer first-team debut. Of the 21 total Pioneers who saw action, all but five were in their first game with Point Park. Only Guilherme Galvao, Lorenzo Grispello, Rocco Domenighini. Nikolai Tjoestheim and Edouard Gagnon had seen action for Point Park in 2025.

Additionally, Sindri Hjaltested made his PPU debut last Sunday against D'Youville, recording a shot, and Bruno de Oliveira recorded a team save in his Pioneer debut on Wednesday against Thomas More.
