CLERMONT, Fla. – Point Park University softball went 0-2 on the day in a double header against Grace (Ind.) College, 4-1 and 9-1, March 3 at the National Training Center.
The Pioneers (1-9) kept it close in game one, but a few unearned runs made the score 4-0. Point Park tried to put together a rally in the seventh inning and managed one run. The Pioneers scored when Shannon Davis singled and moved to second on a passed ball. She advanced to third when Haley Wisniewski reached on an error, and scored when Carley Rosso reached on an error in the next play.
Point Park had five hits in the 4-1 loss. Junior Becca Babincak went 2 for 3 in the effort at the plate.
Senior pitcher Hannah Harley (0-4) put in six innings of work, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and striking out two. Freshman Erica Burns pitched the final inning tallying two strikeouts and a walk.
The Lancers (5-7) ousted Point Park in five innings in game two.
Sophomore Jess Beitler belted a home run, scoring the only run of the game for the Pioneers, making the score 5-1 in the third. However, the Lancers put together a few hits and pulled away in the bottom of the fourth to take the game, 9-1, in five innings.
Freshman Ashley Iagnemma (1-3) got the start on the mound for the Pioneers, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and striking out two in three innings of work. Senior pitcher Michaela Lewis-Lambert (0-2) allowed four runs on six hits and struck out two.
