SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Point Park University softball went toe-to-toe with NCAA DII Slippery Rock University, but came up short 1-0 in eight innings and 3-1 Tuesday.

The Pioneers (17-14, 8-2 RSC) took it to extra innings in game one against Slippery Rock (13-18).

With the score 0-0, Point Park had runners on second and third in the top of the sixth with one out but could not put runs on the board.

In the top of the eighth, the international tiebreaker rule placed Shannon Davis (SO/West Mifflin, Pa) on second. Chelsea Rogel (SO/New Wilmington, Pa) put down a bunt to move her to third, but again the Pioneers could not convert.

A costly error in the bottom of the eighth allowed Slippery Rock to score the walk-off run and win, 1-0.

Ashley Iagnemma (SO/Bridgeville, Pa) pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits, no earned runs, walking three and striking out 11.

In the nightcap, Slippery Rock put up 10 hits, but the Pioneers' defense kept runs from scoring in the 3-1 loss.

The Pioneers were down, 1-0, heading into the top of the sixth.

Kim Corcoran (JR/Cheswick, Pa), Jess Beitler and Amber Cook (FR/West Mifflin, Pa.) all hit singles to load the bases. Brittany Zeigler (SO/McDonald, Pa) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the score, 1-1.

Slippery Rock put up two runs in the bottom of the sixth on two, two-out doubles and a single. The defense struck out the side to end the game with a final score of 3-1.

Tiffany Edwards (SO/Deer Lakes, Pa.) took the loss on the mound, allowing only three runs on 10 hits, walking one and striking out three.

The Pioneers host No. 22-ranked Rio Grande (Ohio) at 3 p.m. Friday for a River States Conference doubleheader.
