PITTSBURGH -- The Point Park University softball team picked up its first conference sweep of the season with Thursday afternoon's victories over Ohio Christian University, 9-8 and 4-0, a Fairhaven Park.
Ashley Iagnemma pitched the full 7.0 innings, and the Pioneers rallied from a 7-2 deficit in the opener. Game two had Katie Tarr strike out 13 batters in a shutout over 7.0 innings.
The Pioneers are 8-13, 3-3 RSC after extending their win streak to four in a row. Point Park plays two more RSC home games on Friday versus Cincinnati Christian with a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
POINT PARK 9, OHIO CHRISTIAN 8
Ohio Christian got to Point Park early scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The Trailblazers tallied three more runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Trailing by six, Hailey Leitner lit a spark for the Pioneers by smashing a two-run homer over the center field fence.
Still down, 7-2, when they came to bat in the bottom of the fifth, the Pioneers put together six runs to storm in front, 8-7. Courtney Blocher, Delaney Baumis, Horn and Leitner all picked up RBI's that inning.
Ohio Christian put one run on the board to tie the game in the sixth inning, but Point Park was able to make one more offensive push to secure the victory.
With the game tied, 8-8, Horn lined a triple to right-field and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Blocher for the eventual winning run.
Ohio Christian got the tying run to second in the seventh, but Iagnemma got a fly out to finish off her complete game.
Leitner ended up 3 for 3 with a homer, a double and three RBIs. Maddie Horn was 2 for 4 while Courtney Blocher and Delaney Baumis both drove in two.
On the mound, Ashley Iagnemma pitched a complete game while picking up three strikeouts.
POINT PARK 4, OHIO CHRISTIAN 0
Katie Tarr spun another dominating performance with 13 strikeouts and no walks in a five-hit shutout.
Point Park did all of its scoring in the third inning and with two outs. Hailey Leitner came through with a double to left-field to score the first three runs. Maddie Horn and Courtney Blocher had singled, and Taylor Goldstrohm had walked to load the bases.
Shannon Davis followed it up with a single to right scoring Leitner.
That was all the offense Point Park needed as Tarr went the distance shutting the Ohio Christian offense down.
Leitner was 2 for 2 with her three RBIs. Davis was 2 for 3 with her RBI.
