WILMORE, Ky. -- The Point Park University softball team extended its win streak to eight games with two River States Conference victories Friday night at Asbury (Ky.) University.
The Pioneers (12-13, 7-3 RSC) won the first game, 9-0, in five innings and took the second game, 6-0. Ashley Iagnemma and Katie Tarr both tossed two-hit shutouts in the first and second games, respectively. Tarr registered a career-high 17 strikeouts.
With the wins, the Pioneers moved up to second place in the RSC standings. They finish the weekend with a doubleheader at Midway (Ky.) Saturday at 1 p.m.
POINT PARK 9, ASBURY 0 (5 INN.)
Scheduled for seven innings, the Pioneers got the job done in five due to a big fifth inning. Point Park scored five runs in the top of the fifth to put the run rule into effect.
Ashley Iagnemma went the distance for Point Park and totaled three strikeouts while giving up just two hits.
Chandler Krelow led the offensive charge for the Pioneers going 3 for 3 with a double and a four RBIs. Delaney Baumis went 1 for 1 with two RBIs. She also added a sacrifice fly and a sacrifice bunt. Amber Cook was 1 for 3 with two runs and an RBI.
The Pioneers put together their big inning of five runs in the fifth with three hits, a walk and an error in the frame.
POINT PARK 6, ASBURY 0
With Katie Tarr racking up a career-high 17 strikeouts, Point Park picked up another shutout victory in the second game. Tarr pitched the complete game, giving up just two hits and four walks. She surpassed her previous high of 15 K's from last week.
Tarr struck out the side four times with those being the first, fourth, sixth and seventh innings. She allowed the ball to be put into play just six times -- two hits, two flyouts, a popout and one groundout.
A majority of Point Park's offense came in the seventh inning with five runs on five hits. That broke open the score, which had been 1-0 since the second.
Krelow had another strong game going 3 for 4 with a double. Taylor Goldstrohm was also 3 for 4 with a run. Hailey Leitner went 2 for 4 with two runs. Amber Cook was 3 for 4 with a run. The Pioneers totaled 13 hits as a team.
