VIENNA, W.Va. -- No. 3 seed Point Park University is leading No. 6 WVU Tech, 5-0, in the top of the fourth inning of one of the opening games of the River States Conference Softball Championship that was started on Thursday night. The game -- along with the other quarterfinal matchup pitting Carlow and Midway (Ky.) -- was suspended due to rain and will be picked back up from that point on Friday morning.

Start time for the continuation of Thursday's games is to be announced early Friday morning. Follow RiverStatesConference.com and @RiverStatesConf on social media for the latest updates. PointParkSports.com and @PointParkSports will provide updates as well.

The six-team, double-elimination tournament is being held at Jackson Memorial Park in Vienna, W.Va. The schedule continues through Saturday with the tournament winner advancing to the NAIA Softball National Championship. No. 1 seed Rio Grande (Ohio) and No. 2 IU Southeast are awaiting the winners from the opening games. Point Park would play IU Southeast with a victory.

Point Park jumped on WVU Tech early with five runs in the bottom of the first. There were three hits, two errors and also three left on base that prevented further damage. It all started with Maddie Horn's lead-off hit. Then two straight bunts by Courtney Blocher and Tiffany Edwards had neither of those produce an out -- the first one went for a base hit, and the second forced an error that scored Horn.

Hailey Leitner then delivered an RBI hit to keep the inning going. The second error came on Taylor Goldstrohm's contact to the right side and scored a run. The final two runs came home via bases-loaded walks.

Point Park starting pitcher Ashley Iagnemma gave up just one hit through the first 3.0 innings of the game. She has three strikeouts and one walk so far. When the game picks up, there will be a runner at first with no outs in the top of the WVU Tech fourth inning. The runner reached on an error.
