Point Park University competitive dance had a successful opening weekend of the season pulling in a pair of victories Jan. 13-14 in Michigan and Ohio. The Pioneers took first place at the Concordia (Mich.) Cardinal Invitational and also won a head-to-head dual at Lourdes (Ohio).
-€‹Point Park was the only team to score above 80 in winning the Concordia Invitational. Debuting a new routine and their first chance to register a score within the NAIA, the Pioneers posted a team score of 82.70. Concordia was the closest competitor at 73.60. Point Park was first place of five teams overall.
The Pioneers had zero deductions in the meet and were viewed consistently across all three judges. All judges had the Pioneers scoring above 81.60 on their scoresheets overall. Most of the marks on the Pioneers' scorecards were 8s and 9s in many categories.
Point Park had more of the same the next day at Lourdes. It was a similar score of 82.50 that day. It beat out Lourdes, which came in at 63.50. Point Park once again had zero deductions. The Pioneers came in as high as 84.50 on one of the judges' scoresheets.
