Point Park University competitive dance went to Indiana and Michigan this weekend to compete in a pair of NAIA invitationals. The Pioneers had a high team finish in each event.
Point Park started out placing third of six teams at the Marian (Ind.) University Knights Invitational on Saturday. The Pioneers had a team score of 72.8 to register as one of the three teams above 70. The Pioneers had a deduction of 1.5 points, which kept them from being ahead of second-place St. Francis (Ill.). The team champion was Aquinas (Mich.), the only school above 80 with an 82.8 team score.
The Pioneers then went to the Siena Heights (Mich.) University Halo Classic on Sunday where they were second place of five teams. Point Park improved its score from the day before with a team total of 75.75. The Pioneers also decreased their deductions with just a half point taken off. That kept the Pioneers ahead of Marian (Ind.) in third place at 73.40. Host school Siena Heights (Mich.) was the team winner at 82.75 with zero deductions.
Point Park's best marks on Sunday came in the areas of staging and transitions, uniformity and choreography, all of which pulled in scores above 8.00 from the judges.
