GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Point Park University competitive dance had a pair of second-place finishes at the Aquinas (Mich) Saints Showdown held this past weekend in Michigan. With those performances, the Pioneers moved up to No. 12 in the NAIA for their season scoring average.
It was a solid day for the Pioneers, who were second place of four teams in both of the events as part of the Saints Showdown. Point Park trailed only host school Aquinas in both events. The Saints are ranked No. 6 in the NAIA for their season scoring average.
Point Park had a team score of 79.73 in the first competition, which was just a few points behind Aquinas with 83.50. Point Park had its highest score of 82.80 from one of the judges that round.
In the second competition of the day, Point Park was consistent as with the first and slighty better at 79.83. Aquinas stepped it up to an 87.27, one of the highest scores in the NAIA posted this season
Aquinas and Point Park were several points clear of the other two teams in both ends of the doubleheader with Marian (Ind.) and Lourdes (Ohio) being in attendance as well.
With its back to back scores of 79 on the day, Point Park increased its season scoring average to 78.94. That is currently ranked 12th in the country on the NAIA scores for the season.
This coming weekend, Point Park will have its final two events before the NAIA regional qualifier on Feb. 18. The Pioneers will go to Penn State-Behrend on Feb. 11 and then go to the Siena Heights (Mich.) Saints Spectacular the next day Feb. 12.
