Box Score 2 SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Point Park University softball beat WVU Tech, 4-1, in Friday's opening game of the River States Conference doubleheader. The Golden Bears bounced back to win the second game, 7-1, and split the day. It was the first matchup of the season for the divisional opponents as an earlier scheduled doubleheader in Pittsburgh was postponed to April 24.
Point Park (13-13, 10-8 RSC) continues its weekend road trip on Saturday at Rio Grande (Ohio) (24-14, 14-6 RSC), a matchup of the top two teams in the RSC East Division.
WVU Tech is now 16-18, 6-10 RSC and in fourth place in the division, one game behind Ohio Christian (17-15, 7-9 RSC) for the third and final playoff spot in the RSC East.
GAME 1 -- POINT PARK 4, WVU TECH 1
Angalee Beall pitched all 7.0 innings limiting WVU Tech to just one run to key the victory in Friday's opener. Beall, a senior right-hander, struck out four, walked just one and scattered six hits.
Point Park had an early lead of 2-0 on Sydnie Reese's two-run homer in the second inning. Alex Bondi was 2 for 4 in the game including an RBI single in the third as the Pioneers bumped the lead to 4-0.
Bondi and Beall were both 2 for 4 two lead the Pioneers eight-hit attack.
WVU Tech got as close was 4-1 in the sixth as it put together three hits. That was the only time Beall allowed more than one base runners in an inning. But she set the Golden Bears down 1-2-3 in the seventh to end any hopes of a comeback.
GAME 2 -- WVU TECH 7, POINT PARK 1
The nightcap was Courtney Miles' turn to pitch a strong game for WVU Tech. She limited Point Park to just one run on five hits in 7.0 innings. The complete-game effort included eight strikeouts and just one walk.
WVU Tech scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to stretch out a low-scoring game of 3-1. The Pioneers went down in order in the seventh to split the day.
Point Park had a 1-0 lead on Angalee Beall's RBI single in the third. WVU Tech responded scoring all of its runs in the fourth, fifth and six innings to turn the tide in its favor.
Scarlett Janney sparked the Golden Bears going 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs. WVU Tech had three triples among their nine hits.
Alex Bondi made it a four-hit day going 2 for 4 in the second game as well.
Point Park had its early chances leaving two runners on in the second and third innings. But the Pioneers could not build on the 1-0 lead. They were unable to get any hits from the fourth inning on.
