PITTSBURGH – Point Park knocked-off Fairmont State in a five-set thriller during senior day on Wednesday evening at the Student Center.
Fairmont State took the first set 25-15, before Point Park responded with wins of 25-22 and 25-21 in the next two sets. Fairmont State forced the decisive fifth set with a 25-15 win in set four. The Pioneers jumped ahead by a 9-3 advantage in the fifth set and went on to win by a final score of 15-8.
Point Park got a team-high 12 kills, 18 digs and four aces from
Giulia Follador in the win.
Eden McElhaney chipped in 11 kills and 16 digs.
Haley Stormer added eight kills in the match, while
Mariah Perez finished with seven kills and five total blocks.
Ana Baruh Krstic also chipped in six kills on senior day.
In addition to Stormer and Perez in the middle,
Patricia Calero-Irizarry finished with a team-high eight blocks to go with five kills.
Elise Wallace finished the evening with 23 assists, while
Rachele Tessari chipped in 17.
Nadiushka Conde and
Mia Arndt chipped in 13 and 12 digs, respectively, from the libero position.
Joey Borelle finished with a match-high 15 kills and 21 digs for Fairmont State. Baylie Ostvig added 14 kills. Josie Nobbe was the third Falcon in double-figures with 12 kills.
Josie Skinn tallied 36 digs for Fairmont State.
Point Park will wrap up the regular season on Friday evening at Salem. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
