PITTSBURGH – Point Park dropped a 3-0 final against MEC North leading Wheeling on Friday evening at the Student Center (26-24, 25-21 and 25-17).
With the win, Wheeling improves to 20-9 overall and 11-2 in league play. Point Park falls to 5-20 overall and 3-10 in league play.
In the first set, the teams battled through 15 ties and 10 lead changes before Wheeling came away with the 26-24 win. Point Park got seven kills from
Patricia Calero-Irizarry and six from
Giulia Follador in the set.
For the match, Follador led the Point Park attack with 15 kills to go with five digs and a block.
Eden McElhaney finished the evening with 11 kills and 13 digs.
Rachele Tessari stuffed the stat sheet with eight kills, 19 assists and 12 digs, while Calero-Irizarry finished with eight kills.
Elise Wallace passed out a team-high 23 assists.
Point Park hit .224 on the evening, finishing with 47 kills and 19 errors on 125 total attacks. Wheeling hit .354 after committing just nine errors in the match.
Riley Kindall finished the evening with 12 kills and nine digs to lead Wheeling. Aly Finch chipped in 10 kills. Mady Winters also had a big day in the middle with nine kills and four total blocks. Karly Niesen passed out 39 assists.
The Pioneers will host Fairmont State on senior day on Wednesday evening from the Student Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m. as Point Park wraps up MEC regular season play.
