SOUTH CHARLESTON, Wv. – Five Pioneers were named to an All-RSC Softball Team at the 2024 RSC Softball Championship in South Charleston, West Virginia. Point Park came away with two First Team awards, two Third Team awards, and Michaela Koch was named to the RSC Champions of Character Team.
All-RSC Softball First Team
Two Pioneers were named to the All-RSC Softball First Team which featured 20 members.
Mia Arndt (Fr./ Robinson Township, Pa.) was one of four outfielders to be named to the first team. The freshman from Montour High School had a phenomenal first year as she hit for a .355 batting average in conference play as the freshman picked up 33 hits in 93 at bats. In her 33 hits included six doubles, three triples, and two home runs. Arndt knocked in 19 RBIs while scoring 20 runs herself. She also picked up 19 stolen bases in conference play to break the single season stolen base record for Point Park softball.
The other Pioneer to be named to the first team through an at-large nomination was junior shortstop Melanie Taylor (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Taylor, a first team selection last year, picked up 40 hits in conference play on the way to a .354 batting average in the leadoff spot for Point Park. In her 40 hits, she hit two doubles and a triple. Taylor scored 23 times for the Pioneers as well while picking up four RBIs.
All-RSC Softball Third Team
Point Park had two members named to the All-RSC Softball Third Team as pitcher Jaylyn Mullenax and catcher Gianna Welsh both were selected.
Jaylyn Mullenax (So./ Bristolville, Ohio) was one of the main forces in the circle for the Pioneers as Mullenax threw 96.2 innings for Point Park in conference play. During those 96.2 innings, Mullenax boasted a 3.26 ERA while picking up 76 strikeouts. Jaylyn went 8-7 in conference play and threw 11 complete games.
Catcher Gianna Welsh (So./ Collier, Pa.) was the second Pioneer named to the All-RSC Softball Third Team. Welsh hit .333 in conference play as she picked up 28 hits of which six were doubles, two were triples, as well as a team leading six home runs. She drove in 23 RBIs and scored 12 times.
All-RSC Softball Champions of Character Team
The recipient of the 2024 All-RSC Softball Champions of Character Team for Point Park was Michaela Koch (Sr./ Pittsburgh, Pa.). The RSC Champions of Character Team recognizes one player from each school who best exemplifies the NAIA's character traits of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.
All-RSC Softball Scholar-Athlete Team
To be named, student-athletes must have a 3.25 grade-point average or higher, have at least two semesters of attendance prior to the current term, participate in an RSC sport and be nominated by their institution. Point Park had twelve members named to the All-RSC Softball Scholar-Athlete Team. Bella Magliocco, Bre Pies, Gianna Welsh, Gianna Woods, Jaylyn Mullenax, Mara Iagnemma, Melanie Taylor, Michaela Koch, Raigan Chavez, Remi Koi, Savannah Lee, and Sydnie Reese were all named.
