Point Park Drops Matches Against Lake Erie, Walsh

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Point Park volleyball dropped a pair of matches on day one of the Hall of Fame City Challenge hosted by Walsh University in North Canton on Friday afternoon.

To open the day, Point Park dropped a five-set thriller against Lake Erie. The Pioneers led 2-1 in the match before back-to-back set victories by Lake Erie in the fourth (25-22) and fifth (15-9). Later in the afternoon, Walsh picked up a 3-0 victory (25-13, 25-13, 25-20) over PPU.

Against Lake Erie, Eden McElhaney led Point Park with 14 kills and 13 digs. Giulia Follador also reached doubles-figures with 12 kills and 12 digs. The Pioneers were also active around the net against the Storm, getting five blocks from Haley Stormer and four from Patricia Calero Iriza.

Elise Wallace passed out 32 assists to lead the Point Park offense against Lake Erie.

For the match, Point Park recorded 42 kills, compared to 25 errors (.137 hitting pct.).

Allison Kirch led Lake Erie with 20 kills, while Sadie Nawrocki recorded 14. Brooklyn Broadway tallied 13 digs for the Storm.

Rachele Tessari drove home a match-high seven kills to lead Point Park against Walsh. McElhaney chipped in five kills and five digs for the Pioneers. Follador was the lone Pioneer with double-figure digs with 10, while Wallace tallied 16 assists from her setter position.

Point Park had just 19 kills and 24 errors in the setback against Walsh. The Pioneers were also limited to just three total blocks in the match.

Anna West and Sammie DiBease recorded 12 kills apiece to lead Walsh in the victory. Jayme Zoeckler passed out 26 assists as the Walsh offense recorded 39 kills and just 13 errors.

Point Park will continue play at the Hall of Fame City Challenge on Saturday morning against Malone. First serve is set for 9 a.m. The Pioneers will wrap up the weekend against Thomas More at 1:30 Saturday.
