PITTSBURGH – The Point Park men's soccer team will look for the season sweep of Frostburg State on Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium. The key Mountain East Conference matchup is slated for 4 p.m. and has major playoff implications for both teams.
The Pioneers are currently in fourth place in the MEC standings with 19 points (6-4-1), while Frostburg State is in fifth with 16 points (5-5-1). Point Park will be looking for some separation in the standings and a potential home playoff game in the opening round.
The MEC Men's Soccer Tournament features a six-team field with two first-round byes and the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds hosting opening round games.
The Pioneers have clinched a playoff spot.
Storylines
- In the first meeting between the two teams this season, Point Park picked up a 2-1 win over Frostburg State on Homecoming Weekend (Sept. 27) at Highmark Stadium.
- After Frostburg State's Abdur-Rahman Neama scored the first goal of the game in the 39th minute, Point Park got second half goals from Fridolin Gefrorer and Lorenzo Grispello to pick up the win. PPU held an 8-6 shot advantage in the game.
- Gefrorer is leading Point Park in goals (5) and points (11) this season. Ido Chalamish is second on the team with three goals and seven points, while Lorenzo Grispello is third with two goals and five points.
- Point Park enters Sunday's game at 2-2-1 in its last five games. The Pioneers are just 2-6-1 on the road this season.
- Following Sunday's game, the Pioneers will return home for three-straight games beginning Wednesday, Oct. 29 against Davis & Elkins. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
