PITTSBURGH – The Point Park baseball team will open the 2025 season on Sunday and Monday with three games at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tennessee.
The action gets underway with a 1:30 p.m. matchup against Bluefield State (0-8 in 2025) on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers will return to the field at 4 p.m. on Sunday against West Virginia Tech (2-4 in 2025).
On Monday at noon, the Pioneers and Golden Bears will wrap up action in Tennessee with a second nine-inning contest.
This weekend's action was originally scheduled to be played in Beckley, West Virginia, but cold and snowy conditions in West Virginia have forced a change in the schedule and venue.
Point Park Baseball – Preseason Notebook
- Point Park baseball was voted runner-up in the 2025 Mountain East Conference North Division Preseason Poll, the league office announced back on Jan. 29 following a vote of the league's head coaches.
- Frostburg State topped the North Division Poll with 10 first-place votes and 46 points during balloting. Point Park received the remaining first-place mark and collected 31 points. Wheeling (26), Fairmont State (23) and West Liberty (14) rounded out the poll in the north.
- Point Park is coming off a 42-15 campaign, which included an appearance in the NAIA World Series in Waleska, Georgia. The Pioneers also won the River States Conference Baseball Championship in 2024.
- The Pioneers return seven all-conference selections in 2025, including first team All-RSC first baseman Isaac Santana, and outfielders Chris Williams and Jared Campbell. Santana was also named an NAIA second team All-American, while Williams was voted the RSC Freshman of the Year. Campbell was an RSC Gold Glove recipient as an outfielder.
- Point Park also had four players that earned second- or third-team accolades last spring, including pitcher Ramon Rodriguez, utility player Luis Gonzalez, pitcher Javier Cardoso II, and second baseman Omar Morillo.
- Santana batted .359 with 21 home runs and 76 runs batted-in a season ago, leading the Pioneers in the latter two categories. He also hit 14 doubles, three triples and had a .736 slugging percentage on the year.
- Williams batted .363 with 10 home runs and 55 runs batted in. He totaled 23 extra-base hits and had a .591 slugging percentage. Williams also had a team-high 17 stolen bases.
- Campbell, an RSC gold glove recipient as an outfielder, batted .337 with 17 home runs and 13 doubles. He drove home 59 runs on the year.
- Rodriguez led the PPU pitching staff with a 12-2 record and a 3.42 ERA. In 15 starts, Rodriguez recorded two complete games, one save, and 106 strikeouts. Opposing batters hit just .216 against him.
- Gonzalez batted .325 with 13 home runs, seven doubles and 55 runs scored. He drove in 51 runs and had a .591 slugging percentage.
- Cardoso was second on the team with a 4.65 ERA during the 2024 season. In 10 starts, he recorded a record of 5-2 with 64 strikeouts.
- Morillo hit a team-high .411 on the year with five home runs and 37 runs batted-in. He recorded a team-high 90 hits, including 29 extra-base hits. He slugged .603 with 16 stolen bases.
