Point Park Opens 2025 With Wins Over Bluefield State, WVU Tech

Jared Campbell breaks Point Park's home run record

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Point Park opened the 2025 season with a pair of lopsided victories over Bluefield State (14-2) and West Virginia Tech (9-0) on Sunday afternoon and evening in Kingsport, Tenn.
 
Point Park was led at the plate by Jared Campbell, who went 4-of-5 with two home runs, a double and nine runs batted-in on the afternoon. He also scored five times and recorded a stolen base on the season's opening day.
 
In game one against BSU, Campbell hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to break the school's all-time home run record. The record was previous held by Point Park Hall of Famer Mike Smith (1997-00) with 42. Following Sunday's doubleheader, Campbell now has 44 career home runs.
 
Campbell also singled and doubled against Bluefield State and finished the game with seven RBIs.
 
In game two against WVU Tech, Campbell blasted his second home run of the day, a two-run shot in the first inning.
 
In total, eight Pioneers drove in runs on Sunday. Against Bluefield State, Cambell drove in seven runs, while Omar Morillo and Isaac Santana brought in two runs apiece. Luis Gonzalez, Jordon Campbell and Edward Mateo also drove in an RBI against the Blues. Santana and Gonzalez each added a double against Bluefield.
 
In the evening against WVU Tech, Campbell drove in two runs, while Gonzalez, Chris Williams and Marcus Franco each drove in one apiece.
 
Point Park also had a pair of gems from its pitching rotation on Sunday.
 
Against Bluefield State, Javier Cardoso II allowed just two runs on five hits in six innings of work to pick up the win in the season opener. He recorded four strikeouts while walking just one. Joey Tedesco recorded the final three outs of the game in relief.
 
Against Tech, Ramon Rodriguez pitched a one-hitter in six innings of work to earn the shutout win. Rodriguez recorded seven strikeouts while walking no one. Ethan Parker recorded the final three outs in the seventh.
 
Point Park will wrap up play in Kingsport on Monday afternoon with another matchup against West Virginia Tech. First pitch is set for 12 noon from Hunter Wright Stadium.
