WASHINGTON, Pa. – Jared Campbell's eighth-inning home run proved to be the difference in the Pioneers' 7-6 victory over California (PA) on Tuesday afternoon at EQT Park in Washington.
With the score tied 6-6 in the top of the eighth, Campbell hit his 10
th home run of the season to provide the winning run on Tuesday.
In the game, Campbell hit 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while
Luis Gonzalez also drove in a pair of runs – on a fielder's choice in the second and on a double in the third.
Omar Morillo also went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while
Edward Mateo drove in a run on a single in the third.
Trevor Jones also had a big day for the Pioneers at the plate, recording a pair of doubles in the victory.
Point Park went deep into its bullpen to get the win. Following four innings from
Ethan Parker, the Pioneers turned to
Jonathan Ramallo in the fifth, and
Logan Creamer in the sixth.
Paul Ruiz (1-0) pitched the seventh and grabbed his first win of the season for Point Park, while
Samuel Georgiana pitched the final two innings and recorded the save – his first of the year.
Point Park (17-6, 7-1 MEC) will return to conference play on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader against the University of Charleston. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in Charleston.
The Golden Eagles currently sit atop the MEC South Division with a mark 5-3 (10-14 overall).
