Pioneers Split With Wayne State

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Point Park split a doubleheader with Wayne State (Mich.) on Friday afternoon on day one of the Pioneer's southern trip to Auburndale. PPU used a strong pitching performance from Cardoso in game one to pick up a 4-2 victory. In the late game, WSU rebounded with a 12-6 win to earn the split.
 
In game one, Javier Cardoso II threw six and two-thirds innings and recorded 10 strikeouts in his second win of the 2025 season. Cardoso allowed just two runs on eight hits in the win.
 
Offensively, Jared Campbell and Isaac Santana recorded two hits apiece. Crixtian Taveras drove in two RBIs for the Pioneers.
 
In total, six Pioneers recorded hits. In addition to Campbell, Santana and Taveras, Chris Williams, Joseph Pilewski and Luis Gonzalez each recorded one hit apiece. Gonzalez recorded the only extra-base hit for the Pioneers with a double.
 
In game two, Wayne State opened up a 12-1 lead and held off a late surge by the Pioneers with a five-run fifth inning.
 
Omar Morillo batted 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Jared Campbell also went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored.
 
Ramon Rodriguez was charged with the loss as Point Park's starter in the game. Rodriguez allowed nine runs and 10 hits in three and one-thirds innings.
 
Point Park returns to action on Saturday with two nine-inning games against Ashland and Gannon. Action will begin against Ashland at 9 a.m., followed by the Gannon game at 12:15.
