WASHINGTON, Pa. – Point Park used strong pitching performances and timely offense to sweep the first two games of its Mountain East Conference doubleheader against West Liberty on Saturday afternoon at EQT Park in Washington. The Pioneers won by scores of 13-5 and 6-0 to improve to 24-10 overall and 13-5 in league play.
In his game one win,
Javier Cardoso II tied the Point Park all-time record with 24 career wins. He tied the record set by Point Park Hall of Famer and current assistant coach
Bryan Neal back in 1997. Cardoso also became the school record holder for career innings pitched on Saturday. Following Saturday's start, he sits at 249.
In game two,
Ethan Parker threw a complete game, two-hitter to improve to 4-3 on the season for the Pioneers.
Game 1: Point Park 13, West Liberty 5
After giving up three runs in the top of the second, Point Park's bats would respond as Isaac Santan led off the bottom of the second with a leadoff double, his seventh of the season.
Chris Williams followed the double with a single to right field and then picked up his MEC-leading 17th steal of the season, putting runners on second and third with no outs. With two runners in scoring position,
Joseph Pilewski delivered a double to left-center, scoring the two runners to cut into the Hilltopper advantage.
Pilewski has been one of Point Park's hottest hitters, now registering at least one hit in nine of the last 10 games and extending his hitting streak to six games on Saturday. After a hit in the bottom of the second, Pilewski advanced to third on a passed ball.
Luis Gonzalez then picked up his sixth RBI in his last four games with a single to left field, tying the game at 3-3.
West Liberty briefly regained the lead at 4-3 in the third, but in the bottom of the frame,
Chris Williams cleared the left field fence with
Isaac Santana and
Jared Campbell on base, giving Point Park the lead for good at 6-4.
Point Park continued to add to its lead in the fourth with a seven-run frame. The bases were loaded for
Omar Morillo, thanks to a pair of walks and a single by
Trevor Jones to left field, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Morillo hit a bases-clearing triple to right-center.
With two outs, Santana recorded his second hit of the game to drive in Morillo from third and Point Park led 10-4.
Following a Santana steal, a Williams single drove in Santana for his fourth RBI of the game. Still in the fourth, Pilewski reached on a fielding error, and Williams picked up his 18th steal at third to put runners at the corners for Jones. Jones drove in both runners with his third triple of the year.
Point Park held a commanding 13-4 lead after the fourth inning and went on to win 13-5 following a Hilltopper run in the seventh.
Cardoso achieved his fifth win of the season, the third-most in the MEC. He pitched five innings, allowing only one earned run while striking out three batters.
This marks the 11th time that Point Park has scored double-digit runs this season, and the Pioneers have won all 11 games.
Game 2: Point Park 6, West Liberty 0
After a scoreless top of the first inning from Parker, who was making his third start of the year and 17th appearance (the most appearances by a Point Park pitcher in 2025), the Pioneers provided immediate run support.
PPU hit three doubles in the first inning to score two runs. Lead-off hitter
Omar Morillo doubled to right field and was driven in by
Crixtian Taveras with a double to left-center (his 11th of the year) during the next at-bat. Santana added the third double, driving in Taveras and making it 2-0.
Point Park, which leads the MEC in doubles, now has 76 on the year.
After holding West Liberty off the scoreboard through four innings, the doubles continued to add up with a two-out rally for Point Park. Jordan Campbell recorded his second hit of the game, a double, setting up lead-off man Morillo to hit his third extra-base hit of the doubleheader and second double of the game, driving in Campbell for the 3-0 lead. Taveras then singled to left-center, picking up his 33rd RBI of the year, to give Point Park a 4-0 advantage as Morillo touched home plate.
In the bottom of the sixth, Point Park added two insurance runs with another two-out rally. Gonzalez drew a walk, and Jordan Campbell was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced to second and third on another walk, setting the stage for Morillo. Morillo recorded his third base hit of the game, driving in two runs as Point Park went on to win 6-0.
Parker went on to pitch a complete game in the win. He had a no-hitter through four and a third innings and allowed only two hits through seven innings, securing his fourth win of the season.
