SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Point Park baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup to PSAC opponent Slippery Rock on Tuesday afternoon at Jack Critchfield Park.
In a high scoring contest, Slippery Rock got the 13-9 win over Point Park.
The Pioneers started off the scoring in the top of the first as
Isaac Santana homered to left field with
Jared Campbell and
Omar Morillo on base to put the Pioneers up 3-0.
Slippery Rock quickly answered back with a big inning of their own as they put up five runs in the bottom of the first to take back the lead.
Point Park's offense put up two more runs in the second and third innings. In the top of the second
Crixtian Taveras singled up the middle to score
Chris Williams and
Jordon Campbell, tying the game up 5-5 before the Pioneers retook the lead in the top of the third.
Trevor Jones got his second home run of the season to give the Pioneers the lead in the top of the third. On the first pitch of the at-bat Jones homered to left center with Joey Pilewski on base to bring the score to 7-5 in favor of Point Park.
In the bottom of the third Slippery Rock answered right back with a run of their own on a double to left field cutting Point Park's lead down to one.
Point Park added one more to the scoreboard in the top of the fourth as Pilewski doubled to left center to score
Jared Campbell making it 8-6 going into the bottom of the fourth.
A solo shot to left field in the bottom of the fourth once again cut the Pioneers lead down to one before Slippery Rock exploded for five unanswered runs over the six and seventh innings to take a 12-8 lead over Point Park.
Crixtian Taveras added one more run on the board for Point Park with a solo home run to left center to make it 12-9 before Slippery Rock closed out the game with a RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to cap the score at 13-9 in favor of the Rock.
Joey Tedesco was tagged with the loss going 2.1 innings giving up three runs on four hits. Five other players got time on the mound with
Brandon Clifford getting the start going 0.1 innings giving up five runs before
Samuel Georgiana came in for 1.2 innings of relief allowing only one hit and two walks.
Logan Creamer was the next pitcher for the Pioneers going 2.0 innings giving up two runs on five hits before Tedesco came in. Following Tedesco's 2.1 innings
Paul Ruiz went 0.1 innings giving up two runs on three hits before
Ethan Van Scoy went the final 1.1 inning giving up one run on two hits.
Point Park pounded out 12 hits on the afternoon with
Omar Morillo,
Crixtian Taveras, and
Trevor Jones registering multiple hits. Taveras and
Isaac Santana had three RBIs apiece in the effort.
