NUTTER FORT, W.Va. – Point Park picked up a pair of low-scoring road wins over Salem University on Friday afternoon at Frank Loria Field.
With the win, Point Park improved to 36-12 on the season. The Pioneers have won 14 of their last 16 games. Salem falls to 21-24 on the year.
Game 1
In game one, the Point Park pitching duo of
Javier Cardoso II and
Harold Boyce combined for a four-hit shutout. Cardoso pitched five complete innings, scattering three hits while striking out one.
At the plate, Point Park got on the board in the top of the second with a two-run home run by
Trevor Jones - his third of the week.
Luis Gonzalez made it 3-0 with another solo home runs later in the inning.
In the sixth, with
Jared Campbell on second,
Joseph Pilewski hit an RBI single to right field to make the final score 4-0 in game one.
Offensively, Point Park was led by two hits apiece from Pilewski, Jones and Gonzalez.
Game 2
In game two with Salem holding a 2-1 lead after two innings of play, Point Park took the lead in the third with a two-run home run by
Crixtian Taveras.
In the top of the fourth, with
Marcus Franco on first and
Trevor Jones on third, Jordan Campbell hit an RBI single to left field to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Pioneers.
The score remained the same until the top of the seventh, when Taveras doubled to center field to score
Omar Morillo from first.
With Point Park leading 5-2 and Salem down to its final three outs, the Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the final margin to a single run at 5-4. The Salem runs were created by RBI doubles from Reese Rinna and Aaron Forbes.
Ethan Parker pitched five complete innings in game two, allowing two runs on five hits. Boyce pitched the final two innings and recorded his fifth save of the season. Boyce allowed two runs on three hits while striking out two.
Point Park and Salem will cap the 2025 regular season on Saturday afternoon at Frank Loria Field. First pitch is set for 12 noon.
