CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Point Park advanced to the 2025 Mountain East Conference Baseball Tournament Championship game with a 7-4 victory over Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon in the semifinal round at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston.
With the win, Point Park improves to 40-13 on the season. Since 2022, Point Park has recorded at least 38 wins in each season. Additionally, the Pioneers have recorded five-consecutive 30-win seasons.
Championship Sunday will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon against the winner of this evening's Frostburg State vs. Fairmont State elimination game. As the tournament's lone undefeated team remaining, Point Park can win the championship with one win on Sunday. The Pioneers would need to be defeated twice to lose the championship.
After two scoreless innings,
Jared Campbell made it 2-0 in the top of the third, hitting his fourth home run of the tournament by clearing the right field fence. Campbell now has 18 home runs on the season.
After holding Frostburg State off the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning, Point Park added two more runs in the fourth on an error by the Frostburg State right fielder. Luis Gonzales and
Joseph Pilewski crossed home plate on the error.
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Frostburg State's Ryan Bouma left the park with a two-run shot to left field.
Then, with the score sitting at 4-2 in the top of the sixth,
Omar Morillo hit an RBI single to center field to score Gonzalez from second.
In the ninth, Point Park added two more runs to create some cushion in the final inning.
Isaac Santana scored the first run on a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Taveras. Later in the inning,
Jared Campbell stole home on double steal with Pilewski.
With Point Park holding a 7-2 lead and Frostburg State down to its final three outs, the Bobcats plated two runs in the ninth on a two-run home run by Mikey Guy. However,
Orlando Leon quickly closed out the win with a strikeout during the next at-bat.
Point Park's
Ramon Rodriguez made the start and went four and one-thirds innings. He finished his afternoon by allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out five. Leon earned the win after pitching the final four and two-thirds. He recorded four strikeouts while allowing two runs on six hits.
Despite giving up 10 Frostburg State hits in the game, just three went for extra bases.
