Point Park Set to Host Home Opener against California (Pa.)

PITTSBURGH - The Point Park volleyball team will welcome California (Pa.) to the Student Center Gym on Tuesday night for a non-conference matchup with first serve scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Pittsburgh.

Storylines
  • The Pioneers returned from the UC/WVSU Volleyball Classic with a 1-7 overall record after going 1-3 at the classic. Point Park picked up their first win of the season on Friday afternoon, beating Roberts Wesleyan 3-0 in their second game of the day.
  • Point Parks 1-7 overall record puts the Pioneers in fourth place in the North Division standings. The Pioneers will open up the 2025 conference schedule against Davis & Elkins on September 26 in Elkins, West Virginia.
  • Point Park and California met last year in the Vulcan Invitational where the Pioneers suffered a 3-1 loss to the Vulcan's. Returning Libero Mia Arndt had 13 digs and 4 assists in last year's matchup.
  • Setter Marianna Oyola-Rivera currently sits in third in the conference in assists, recording 188 on the season while averaging 7.23 per game. The transfer from WVU Tech has appeared in all 26 sets for the Pioneers this year. Oyola-Rivera is also eighth in the conference in service aces, with 11 on the season.
  • In the Pioneers win against Roberts Wesleyan, Point Park had an attack percentage of .350 which is the third highest in a game this season by a Mountain East Conference school. Point Park recorded 45 kills on 103 total attacks in three sets.
