Point Park Travels to Frostburg State Saturday

PITTSBURGH – Point Park travels to Frostburg State on Saturday as the regular season winds down, looking to earn a season split with the Bobcats. The Pioneers will aim to play spoiler for the second-straight game when they tip-off at 2:00 p.m. in Frostburg.

Point Park enters the contest with momentum after defeating Fairmont State, 63-47, on Wednesday night. The Pioneers are now 7-16 overall and 4-14 in Mountain East Conference play.

Frostburg State comes in at 12-13 overall and 7-10 in MEC action. The Bobcats have been competitive of late, going 3-3 in their last six games.

Frostburg took the first meeting of the season on January 17, defeating Point Park, 60-44, at CCAC. The Pioneers limited the Bobcats' leading scorer (Julie Spinelli) to just 10 points in that contest. Ayla Hileman and Jenna Muha each scored 12 for Frostburg, while Camille Fultz led Point Park with 10 points — the only Pioneer to reach double figures.

STORYLINES

  • If the playoffs began today, these teams would meet in the opening round of the MEC Tournament. Frostburg would be the No. 7 seed, and Point Park would be the No. 10 seed.

  • Front-court production has fueled Point Park over the last two games. Junior Elizabeth Boyd delivered a historic performance Wednesday with 23 points and 22 rebounds. She has recorded five double-doubles in the last six games and 10 on the season.

  • Boyd ranks third in the MEC in rebounds per game (9.5).
  • Fultz is leading Point Park in scoring this season at 14.9 points per game. Boyd (13.0) and Alexis Giles (12.5) are also averaging double-figures this season. Giles has a team-high 30 3-pointers.
  • Kamryn Pieper ranks second in the conference in blocks per game (1.36), while Boyd is third at 1.30 per contest.

  • The Pioneers' 67 rebounds on Wednesday mark the highest single-game total by any MEC team this season. Point Park previously grabbed 57 against Shepherd in November, and West Virginia State also recorded 57 against Bluefield State earlier this month.

  • The 15 blocked shots against Fairmont State are also the most by any MEC team in a single game this season.

  • Sophomore Julia Spinelli leads Frostburg State and ranks third in the MEC in scoring, averaging 17.3 points per game. The Pittsburgh native is second on the team in rebounding with 173 total boards. Jenna Muha adds 13.5 points per game and leads the Bobcats in rebounding at 8.8 per game.
