Pioneers Host Golden Eagles at Highmark Stadium

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park women's lacrosse is set to host Charleston on Wednesday in MEC action. Opening draw is slated for 7 p.m. from Highmark Stadium.

 

Andrea Kinger was named MEC Player of the Week on Monday, marking the second time she has earned the honor this season. Kinger totaled nine goals and 14 points over the week.


Point Park (3-6, 1-2 MEC) fell to Davis & Elkins on Sunday in an overtime thriller 14-13. The Pioneers featured six goalscorers, highlighted by Andrea Kinger scoring five goals for a team-leading 6 points.  Kiley Leasure scored a hat trick, Gracie Favela added a brace, and Alexandra Hrkach, Emma Diaz and Tessa Hueber all tallied.

 

The Pioneers rallied from down 7-3 early, and Kinger scored with 2:46 in regulation to force overtime. The Senators scored after 1:41 in the extra frame, picking up the win. 

 

Charleston (6-5, 2-1 MEC) picked up a 21-12 win over Wheeling on Sunday. The Golden Eagles have won four of their last five, including a 21-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan. Charleston is 1-4 on the road this season. 

 

STORYLINES

  • Andrea Kinger was named MEC Player of the Week on Monday. Kinger has won the award twice this season, with Mar. 2 being the first time she received the honor. Kinger leads the MEC with her 3.83 goals per game and her 5.5 points per game. She ranks second in the conference with her 7.17 shots per game.

  • Kiley Leasure is third in the MEC in goals per game at 3.17 and in points per game with 4.27. Her 6.17 shots per game place her fifth in the conference.

  • Tessa Hueber ranks fifth across MEC players in assists per game with 1.8. Hueber is one of three Pioneers in the top 10, with Kinger sitting seventh place (1.67) and Gracie Favela (1.33) in 10th.

  • Isabella LaVenice ranks in the top 10 in the conference in goals against average (sixth - 11.32), saves per game (sixth - 4.6) and save percentage (ninth - .343). 

  • Goalkeeper Elena Sinar leads the conference in goals against average (6.84). Sinar is seventh in save percentage (.381) and eighth in saves per game (2.67).

  • Point Park leads the MEC in goals per game (14.17), assists per game (8.67), points per game (22.83) and shots per game (35.33)

  • Point Park features six of the top 10 players in the MEC in ground balls per game, including holding the top three spots. Taylor Desko leads the conference at 5.17, Andrea Kinger ranks third at 4.0, Ava Miller averages 3.67 for fifth in the MEC, Alayna Zell is seventh at 3.33, Isabella LaVenice is ninth at 3.2 and Gracie Favela is 10th at 3.17 per contest.

  • Desko ranks seventh in the MEC in draw controls per game, averaging 3.83 per contest.

  • Kiley Leasure is averaging 1.83 caused turnovers per game, good for sixth in the MEC.
