Point Park to Visit Charleston Wednesday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Point Park women's lacrosse visits Charleston on Wednesday for an MEC matchup. Opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Welch Athletic Complex. 

 

The Pioneers (5-9, 2-5 MEC) dropped a close decision on Saturday against Davis & Elkins 14-11. PPU featured three players to record 4 points in Gracie Favela, Andrea Kinger and Kiley Leasure. Favela's three goals led the Pioneers, and Kinger and Leasure tied with Emma Diaz for the second-most goals at two each. Taylor Desko and Tessa Hueber both dented the twine on Saturday.

 

Charleston (10-5, 6-1 MEC) enters as a winner of five straight dating back to Mar. 26. UC took down Point Park 15-6 at Highmark Stadium over their win streak. Charleston scored the first seven goals in its matchup with Point Park and held a 12-1 lead at halftime. The Golden Eagles have yet to suffer a defeat at home this season.

 

POSTSEASON PUSH

Point Park currently sits in fifth place in the MEC. The top five teams will qualify for the MEC Tournament, but Dominican - which currently is in sixth place - is guaranteed the third seed. Point Park (2-5 MEC) is currently 2.5 games back of Davis & Elkins (4-4) and is 3.5 games back of Wheeling (5-3) with three games to play. The Pioneers will visit Wheeling on Wednesday, Apr 22.

 

STORYLINES

  • Andrea Kinger was named MEC Offensive Player of the Week on Mar. 2 and Mar. 30. Kinger is second in the MEC with 5.3 points per game. Her 3.2 goals per game and 2.1 assists per game are both good for third in the MEC, and her 6.5 shots per game rank fourth in the conference.

  • Kiley Leasure is seventh in the MEC in goals per game (2.6) and shots per game (5.5) and is ninth in points per game with 3.4. 

  • Tessa Hueber ranks ninth across MEC players in assists per game with 1.33. 

  • Isabella LaVenice ranks in the top 10 in the conference in goals against average (ninth - 12.92) and saves per game (sixth - 4.67). Her save percentage is good for 12th at .331. 

  • Goalkeeper Elena Sinar is fifth in goals against average (8.88) and 10th in saves per game (2.4) in the MEC.

  • PPU leads the conference in assists per game with 8.1. Point Park is third in the conference in shots per game (31.8). The Pioneers rank fourth in points per game across the MEC at 20.8.

  • Taylor Desko leads the MEC in ground balls per game at 4.9 per contest. Andrea Kinger sits in sixth position in the conference, averaging 2.9 per game. Desko and Kinger are both in the top 10 in draw controls per game with Desko in eighth (3.2) and Kinger in the 10th spot (2.6).

  • Desko is fifth among all MEC players in caused turnovers per game, averaging 2.1. She's joined by Emerson Wackowski (seventh - 1.62) and Kiley Leasure (ninth - 1.6) in the top 10.
