Point Park to Visit Wheeling in Inaugural-Season Finale

WHEELING, W.Va. -- Point Park women's lacrosse is set to visit Wheeling on Thursday in the team's final game of its inaugural season. Opening draw is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Bishop Schmitt Field.

 

Point Park fell to the MEC-leading Frostburg State last Friday in a 16-3 decision. Andrea Kinger's two goals led the Pioneers, and Alayna Zell added a goal of her own. Gracie Favela recorded the team's lone assist. 

 

Wheeling fell to Frostburg State last Wednesday 21-7. The Cardinals (8-8. 5-4 MEC) have dropped their last two games they've played, falling to Charleston and Frostburg State. WU picked up a win via forfeit over West Virginia Wesleyan in the game which was scheduled for last Saturday. The Cardinals have qualified for the MEC Championships.  

 

STORYLINES

  • Andrea Kinger was named MEC Offensive Player of the Week on Mar. 2 and Mar. 30. Kinger is second in the MEC in goals per game (3.13), points per game (4.87) and shots per game (7.07). She ranks fourth in the conference in assists per game, averaging 1.73.

  • Kiley Leasure is eighth across the MEC shots per game (5.18). Leasure is second on the team in goals (34) and points (44).

  • Tessa Hueber's 13 assists on the season are good for second-best on the team. Hueber is one of four Pioneers with double-digit assists, joining Kinger (26), Gracie Favela (12) and Leasure (10). 

  • Isabella LaVenice ranks in the top 10 in the conference in goals against average (ninth - 13.59) and saves per game (sixth - 4.93). Her save percentage is good for 11th at .343. 

  • Goalkeeper Elena Sinar is eighth in goals against average (12.49) in the MEC.

  • PPU is fourth in the conference in assists per game with 6.33 and shots per game at 30.13. The Pioneers rank fifth in the MEC as a team in goals per game (11.13) and points per game (17.47).

  • Taylor Desko leads the MEC in ground balls per game at 5.0 per contest. Andrea Kinger sits in seventh position in the conference, averaging 2.67 per game. Desko is eighth in draw controls per game with her average of 2.93.

  • Desko is fourth among all MEC players in caused turnovers per game, averaging 1.93.
