ATHENS, W.Va. -- Point Park men's soccer is set to face Concord on Wednesday in a road MEC matchup. Opening kick is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Callaghan Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT
Point Park (3-3-2, 2-2-0 MEC) took down No. 23 Frostburg State on Sunday in a 2-1 victory. Hector Moreno scored on a breakaway thanks to a pass from Lander Barrio Gonzalez, and Alejandro Vega tapped in a corner kick from Edouard Gagnon to double PPU's lead.
Anthony Fusay tallied five saves in the matchup, including a diving save on a penalty kick to keep the game at 2-1 in the first half.
CONFERENCE CHECK IN
Point Park currently is tied for third in the MEC North Division with West Liberty at 6 points apiece. The top three seeds in each MEC division qualify for the MEC Tournament, with the division champions each receiving a bye.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN LIONS
Concord (4-1-2, 3-1-0 MEC) enters Wednesday's tilt fresh off a 2-0 win over Salem on Sunday. The Mountain Lions have a four-game unbeaten streak, which dates back to Sept. 9, in which they've taken down West Virginia Wesleyan (2-0), Shawnee State (2-1) and tied with Seton Hill (1-1).
Koya Nakamura leads CU in goals (five) and points (8). Dominique Malhomme and Josiah Ochoa have both scored two goals on the season. Malhomme was named MEC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 7.
Iora Tanaka has started all seven of Concord's games, posting a goals-against average of 0.75 and a save percentage of .737. Tanaka, who was named MEC Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 31, leads the MEC in GAA and ranks fourth in save percentage.
FORT FUSAY
In his first season as a Pioneer, Goalkeeper Anthony Fusay is quickly rising to the top of MEC stat boards. Fusay, a junior from Lille, France, by way of Lincoln Memorial University, is tied for second in the MEC in shutouts and ranks fifth in saves with 23 and seventh in save percentage at .676. He also ranks fifth in the conference in goals-against average (1.41)
PRESEASON PRAISE
Point Park was picked to finish second in the Mountain East Conference North Division in the MEC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll. The Pioneers received four of the 10 first-place votes.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
All 11 of Point Park's starters in their season opener against Seton Hill made their Pioneer first-team debut. Of the 21 total Pioneers who saw action, all but five were in their first game with Point Park. Only Guilherme Galvao, Lorenzo Grispello, Rocco Domenighini. Nikolai Tjoestheim and Edouard Gagnon had seen action for Point Park in 2025.
Additionally, Sindri Hjaltested made his PPU debut in the team's second match against D'Youville, recording a shot, and Bruno de Oliveira recorded a team save in his Pioneer debut against Thomas More.
