Pioneers Post 7 More Top-5 Finishes to Finish Split Weekend

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va.-- Point Park track & field finished its split-squad weekend, with competitors at West Liberty's Tim Weaver Invitational and the Carnegie Mellon Invitational. The Pioneers totaled seven top-five finishes, with Andrew Hartung achieving two.

 

Hartung finished with 5,134 points in the decathlon - the second most in Point Park's history. He also improved on his fourth-best mark in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.72 meters. Hartung took first place in the 400m (52.86 seconds) and 1,500m (4:57.78).

 

WLU RESULTS

Hartung wasn't the only Pioneer to find success in the decathlon, as Trey Jones recorded PPU's third-best score with his 4,340 points. Jones took the top spot in the high jump (1.79 meters) and placed second in the discus (29.85 meters).

 

Hartung finished third overall and Jones ended the event in fourth place.

 

Miriam Klaunig recorded 3,642 points in the heptathlon - good for third at the meet and second in Pioneer history. Klaunig took third place in the 200m (27.82 seconds), shot put (9.31 meters) and 100m hurdles (16.84 seconds).

 

Akeem Mustapha finished fourth in the long jump with his distance of 6.44 meters. Mustapha's personal record is 7.35 meters which ranks second in PPU history.

 

Khady Ndiaye finished first in both the high jump (1.55 meters) and triple jump (11.50 meters). Ndiaye tied her fifth-best mark in program history in the high jump, and she holds the current program record in the triple jump at 11.72 meters. Ndiaye also placed seventh in the long jump.

 

Marlaya McCoy finished in the top 10 in three events on Saturday. McCoy finished fourth in the 100m finals (13.19 seconds), fifth in the triple jump (10.23 meters) and ninth in the long jump (4.73 meters). 

 

Tanais Rojas finished fourth in the triple jump, recording a mark of 10.50 meters.

 

CMU RESULTS    

Three Pioneers recorded top-five finishes to close out the CMU Invitational on Saturday. 

 

Jan Tuttenberg moved from fourth to third in program history in the discus with his toss of 40.45 meters. Gavin Glass sits in fifth place in the 110m hurdles after his seventh-place finish. Glass set a time of 15.29 seconds. Aubrey Smith finished third in the 800m, improving her fifth-best time in program history to 2:17.72.

 

Dunya Van den Tooren finished first in the high jump with her distance of 1.65 meters (0.03 meters shy of her current program record). Van den Tooren also took fourth place in the long jump with her mark of 5.17 meters.

 

Chase Bowen finished third place in the 800m with his time of 1:55.08. Bowen finished 0.78 seconds shy of his fourth-best time in Pioneer history.

 

Ben Williams achieved a distance of 53.13 meters in the javelin - good for third place. Ben Blahovec took sixth place in the javelin. Blahovec cleared a mark of 51.84 meters. Blahovec sits fifth in program history in the javelin (54.41 meters).

 

Lindsay Simmons finished 10th in the 400m hurdles with her time of 1:06.84 - 0.09 seconds shy of her third-best time in program history. Simmons also finished 12th in the 100m hurdles.

 

Jana Schmid finished the 800m in 2:20.03 en route to an eighth-place finish. Lina Single and Alexis Heller both finished in the top 10 in the javelin. Single took seventh with her distance of 33.74 meters and Heller's toss of 30.43 meters was good for 10th.

Point Park returns to action on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Dave Labor Invitational, hosted by Slippery Rock University.
