PITTSBURGH – Point Park volleyball is gearing up for back-to-back road matches on Friday and Saturday as the Pioneers return to MEC league play. The Pioneers will face off with Charleston on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. before going up against West Virginia State on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

Storylines

• The Pioneers (3-16 overall, 2-5 MEC) have dropped their last seven matches. In Point Park's most recent matchup, the Pioneers fell 3-0 to non-conference opponent Carnegie Mellon on Tuesday night. Against the Tartans, Point Park hit .106 led by Alex Koontz with 10 kills.
• Charleston currently sits at the top of the South Division with a 14-9 overall record and a 7-1 record against MEC opponents while West Virginia State is fourth in the South Division with a 9-10 overall record and a 4-4 league record.
• Last year the Pioneers dropped both matches against Charleston and West Virginia State. Against the Golden Eagles the Pioneers fell 3-1 while hitting .087 with Sara Faith leading Point Park with 11 kills. In the match against the Yellow Jackets, the Pioneers dropped the match 3-0 in Pittsburgh.
• As a team, Point Park is hitting .123 with an average of 10.9 kills per set. The Pioneers are also averaging 9.9 assists per set led by Marianna Oyola-Rivera who ranks second in the conference in assists. Oyola-Rivera is averaging 8.13 assists per set and eclipsed 500 assists on the season (504).
• On the road this season the Pioneers are 2-6, picking up wins against Davis & Elkins and Frostburg State. The Pioneers swept Davis & Elkins on Sept. 26 and followed up with a 3-1 win over Frostburg State on Sept. 30
